内容简介：Treating film adaptation as a form of intersemiotic translation, this presentation analyses Wong Kar-wai’s (王家卫) approach to film adaptation and pays particular attention to his attempts to explore and extend possibilities latent in the source text, with reference to Ashes of Time (《东邪西毒》) and In the Mood for Love (《花样年华》). Ashes of Time, adapted from Louis Cha’s (金庸) martial arts novel The Eagle-shooting heroes (《射雕英雄传》), shows Wong to be an adventurous adaptor aiming to rewrite the tradition of martial arts fiction and film. The cultural significance of this rewriting will be discussed with an emphasis on adaptation strategies designed to discover options and discern lines of flight. In theMood for Love will be considered as an unofficial adaptation of Liu Yichang’s (刘以鬯) novella Intersections (《对倒》), with special attention given to the ways in which Wong incorporates the idea of tête-bêche to allow us to see the same in a new light and avoid a nostalgic return to the past.
主讲人简介：
Yau Wai-ping (邱伟平) is Assistant Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the Hong Kong Baptist University. His research interests include Chinese film and literature, literary translation, screen translation, and film adaptation. In addition to scholarly work published in Meta，The Translator and Translation Studies among other venues, he has published translations of contemporary Chinese poetry and fiction, and is currently working on the translation of volume one of the award-winning novelist Dung Kai-cheung’s trilogy on Hong Kong.
