(Elizabeth Closs and Graeme Trousdale. 2013. Constructionalization and Constructional Change. Oxford: Oxford University Press.)
讲座内容:
There are several ongoing debates about grammaticalization. Three questions are of particular importance: 1. How can the two current models of grammaticalization be reconciled? One is a model of grammaticalization as reduction, the other a model of grammaticalization as expansion. 2. How can the dual roles of form and meaning in change be fully recognized? 3. What is the proper role of analogy?
Traugott proposes that a construction grammar approach to change provides a framework that helps to address these questions. Using Goldberg’s (1995, 2006) and Croft’s (2001) usage models of construction grammar as a foundation, and assuming that language is a system that is both communicative and cognitive, she outlines a constructionalist approach to change. Constructionalization is shown to encompass and go beyond grammaticalization. It provides the ability to see how networks, schemas, and micro-constructions are created or grow and decline, as well as the ability to track the development of patterns at both substantive and schematic levels, and to account for the ways in which reduction and expansion are intertwined. It also allows the researcher to see how each micro-construction has its own history within the constraints of larger patterns, most immediately schemas, but also related network nodes.
