Professor Martin Halliwell is Head of the School of English and Chair of American Studies at the University of Leicester. His scholarship focuses on twentieth-century American intellectual and cultural history, American literature and film, and the history of medicine. His books include ''American Culture in the 1950s'' (2007) and ''American Thought and Culture in the 21st Century'' (2008). He is currently the Chair of the British Association for American Studies.
